ICP-MS or Inductively Coupled Plasma – Mass Spectrometry is utilized for the detection of metals and several non-metals in various sample types at low concentrations. ICP-MS has greater precision and sensitivity than other metal detection techniques; the instruments are capable of seeing metals in the low part per billion (ppb), high part per trillion range (ppt). ICP-MS is an analytical technique that ionizes the metals in a sample via inductively coupled plasma and then the mass spectrometer separates and quantifies the ions based on the isotopes abundancies.
